Unlike
other countries, in Chile the protection of our personal data is not guaranteed
by State. The actual law was created in 1999 when the internet -and its
associated phenomena- didn´t is known to ordinary people life.
As result
of this, today we don´t have an upgraded law and our information can be used by
other persons, private companies or marketing and, the most preoccupant, is
that all this happen every day without our consent.
But the
fully protect in this hyperconnected era is impossible and the responsibility of
know what we are giving when we accept the condition to be part of the new
technologies stars with us. How many time do you have given your R.U.T. in a
shopping center or you have allowed that a “app” can access to your cellphone
information?
At present,
Congress discus a modification to current rule where, among other thing, the
motion asks to create a National Agency for the Protection of Personal Data. This
organization would be responsible by the Transparency Council but wouldn’t be independent.
