I still
remember the first time I went to a concert. I was fifteen years old when I
bought a ticket to see Calle 13 concert in Concepción. They come to Chile in
September 2011, when the movement students was in his peak and the member’s
group was declared his support to student demands.
In this time,
my school on strike and many of my classmates wanted meet the Puerto Rican
band. Obviously, me too, but my mom didn´t like the idea because she was afraid
that the concert become in a protest and the police come to the place.
Concepción is
a city where international artist don’t go frequently and expectations was very
high, all attendees was waiting for Residente, the singer’s group, and his
discourse dedicate to students. I don’t remember exactly the Resident’s words,
but he saw in many opportunities that the movement was known internationally
and we should be proud. Every time he said this phrase, the public screamed and
jumped more strongly.
Calle 13 is a group mix rap with popular Latin-American rhythm and his principal members are
Residente (René Pérez) and Visitante (Eduardo Cabra). The golden age of the
band was in 2010 - 2011 when they released “Entren los que quieran” where the
principal topic was Latin American and social denunciation.
