Hedy Lamarr


In this blog going to talk about Hedy Lamarr, an actress and inventor. She was born in Austria, in 1914, but she nationalized as American after her contribution to science and arts.

Her life was very attractive for me. She born in a Jewish family and escaped from her first husband, who was a Nazi collaborated. Whit him, she was just four years married (1933- 1937, a time where was difficult be a woman and do this type of things).

In 1940 she arrived to EE.UU where her career as actress on Hollywood started. The Lamarr’s talent and beauty highlight too early. But her importance for me was her contribution to telecommunication and development of new technologies.

Together American composer George Antheil, invented a radio guidance system using spread spectrum and frequency hopping technology. Their invention helped to EE.UU in World War II because the system could intercept enemy torpedoes when was detected for radiofrequency.

Lamarr learned very easily to control this emerging technology and was the antecessor -and first step- for now we knew like “Wifi”. Unfortunate, the license of invent was registered with married name and the credits of her help for American navy technology never was recognized.

My future job

I haven’t decided yet what will be my plan for the future. For now, I’ve have two ideas in my mind. One of this, is study a new career completely different to journalism –like physical scientist or programing- and can have new challenges. Why did I chose this areas? Because I remember my school days and how did my marks be in mathematic subjects. I didn’t be an outstanding student but neither had problem with learn new concepts. I loved geometric and statistics, problems quadratics equations. But I always had fear of failure in this area and like I also was good in humanist subject I decided study a career where I could write a lot and do research works. Today, I see to the past and I think that is the correct moment to start again. And in the other side, I’ve thought still studying my actual career but in a specialized area, for example, the big data or scientific journalism. A short experience in the stadium

Just for a photo, that could be the summary of this story.  My experiences in the stadium always have been normal, maybe, because unwittingly I’ve avoided exposing myself to dangerous situation. But this time was different. My story happened two years ago, on April 2016. This afternoon I had gone to see the “classic Chilean” football game between teams Universidad de Chile and Colo Colo. I was whit two friends very fanatics of the Universidad de Chile and, of course, she wore her team ‘s shirt. The game evolved normally (without considerer the typical thing happens in this type of events) but when the game finished, the things turn bad.
